In an average year one million Americans are hospitalized because of heart failure, but this condition can often be treated. A new study shows that measuring blood pressure can help by telling doctors just how sick a heart failure patient is, and what kind of treatment is needed…KTEN’s Margaret Stokes reports.
Low blood pressure is healthier than high, but a new study in the Journal Of The American Medical Association, shows there is a brief period of time when it’s better for heart failure patients to have high blood pressure. That period is at the time of their admission to the hospital.
Doctors found that if the person who arrives to the hospital with heart failure has a heart that’s still strong enough to create high blood pressure at the time of admission, that patient has a much lower risk of dying during their hospital stay than someone coming in with low blood pressure.
